How it works

Three steps, then it runs itself.

1

Enroll in about two minutes

Sign up online or over the phone with your name, your address and your Potomac Edison account number. No credit check, and nothing is installed at your home.

2

We match you to a local project

Your subscription is matched to a share of a Maryland solar farm's output, feeding the same grid that serves Keedysville.

3

Your Potomac Edison bill goes down

Solar credits and discounts both appear on the Potomac Edison bill you already receive, so your total comes down automatically. There is no second bill to manage.

Income-qualified pricing

20% off, and two ways to qualify.

We set aside 40% of every project for income-qualified households. Those subscribers save 20% instead of 10%, on exactly the same terms. Eligibility is confirmed as part of signing up, so there is nothing separate to apply for.

Either one of these is enough on its own

  • You already take part in an assistance program of any kind, whether that is housing, food, medical or energy. SNAP, LIHEAP, Medicaid and housing assistance all count.
  • Or your household income falls within the program's limits. No assistance program is needed if you qualify this way.

We check during enrollment and apply the better rate if you qualify. If you are not sure which applies to you, call and we can confirm it while you are on the phone.

Before you start

Questions Keedysville residents ask.

Is anything installed at my home?

No. Nothing is attached to your roof or your property, and no work is done at your home at all. Your share of the solar project sits at a solar farm elsewhere in Maryland. That is why renters qualify on exactly the same terms as homeowners.

What does it cost to join?

There is no sign-up fee, no installation cost, no credit check and no cancellation fee. You only ever pay for solar credits that have already been applied to your bill, and you pay 10% less than they are worth, or 20% less if your household is income-qualified.

How does the billing work?

Everything appears on the one Potomac Edison bill you already receive. Your solar credits lower what you owe, and the charge for those credits shows up on that same bill.

Your subscription is always priced below the value of the credits you receive. The difference between the two is your savings, which is why the bill goes down rather than up.

You will never receive a separate bill from Solar Simplified.

How do I know if I qualify for the 20% rate?

We set aside 40% of every project for income-qualified households. There are two ways to qualify and either one on its own is enough: your household income, or your participation in an assistance program of any kind, whether that is housing, food, medical or energy. We check during enrollment and apply the better rate if you qualify.

Who is Solar Simplified?

We are a national community solar provider registered with the Maryland Public Service Commission, not an alternative electricity supplier, so we never take over your utility service. We connect households with local solar projects, and we have generated over $20 million in electricity credits for our customers.

Does my Potomac Edison service change?

No. Potomac Edison stays your utility, delivers your power and sends your bill exactly as they do today. There is no interruption to your service and nothing changes about how your electricity reaches you.

What if I move, or want to cancel?

You can cancel at any time, with no fees and no penalty. Your customer agreement runs month to month. If you move within Potomac Edison territory, call us and we can usually move your subscription to the new address instead of closing it.

Enrolling takes about two minutes.
